Abstract: Opioid and Cannabis in Pain Control is the result of studies performed by the Pharmacy Department and the “Centro Interdipartimentale di Ricerca in Farmacoeconomia e Farmacoutilizzazione” (CIRFF) of the University of Naples, “Federico II”. This book is aimed to those who work in a pharmacy and who, scholars, teachers or students, are interested in delve into the issue. The text analyzes different topics with an interdisciplinary approach. A large part is devoted to the chemical and pharmacological aspects related to this topic. Subsequently, the text focuses the theme, still very debated, of using opioids and Cannabis in therapy through an exhaustive analysis of the entire existing legislation: from the first laws promulgated by the Kingdom of Italy until the last ministerial circulars by Italian republic. Finally yet importantly, an important part of the book focuses on medical and therapeutic interpretation with regard to the effects on pain control, where opioids and Cannabis are not only a fruitful frontier of research, but also a consolidated and effective tool to counteract some types of pain

Author Biographies

Ettore Novellino, Federico II University of Naples

He is full professor of Pharmaceutical and Toxicology Chemistry, Director of the Pharmacy Department of the University of Naples Federico II and President of the National Conference of Pharmacy Department Managers. In 2004 Novellino founded the “Centro Interdipartimentale di ricerca in Farmacoeconomia e Farmacoutilizzazione” (CIRFF). His scientific production, which boasts over six hundred works published in major international journal, focuses, in particular, on computational chemistry applied to drug design and nutraceutical

Arturo Cuomo

He is Director of the Department of “Anesthesia, Intensive care medicine and Antalgic Treatment” and the Department of “Support to Oncological Pathologies Clinical Activity and Critical Area” at the National Institute of Tumors - IRCCS Foundation Pascale of Naples. He is a member of various scientific societies and the author of numerous publications.

Agnese Miro

She is associate professor at the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Naples, Federico II. His scientific interests focus on the design of therapeutic systems aimed at optimizing pharmacokinetics and pharmacological profile of bioactive molecules.

Enrica Menditto

She is assistant professor, at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Naples, Federico II. Research activities are related to economic evaluations of health programs and observational studies in a ‘real-world’ setting by using health-related administrative databases (i.e. pharmaceutical, and hospital discharge records) and clinical data.

Valentina Orlando

She is Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy, University of Naples, Federico II. She is doing research at “Centro Interdipartimentale di ricerca in Farmacoeconomia e Farmacoutilizzazione” (CIRFF), dealing with outcome research and assessment of the impact of health policies in real clinical practice.

Francesca Guerriero

Post-graduate student in hospital pharmacy, she is doing research at “Centro Interdipartimentale di Ricerca in Farmacoeconomia e Farmacoutilizzazione” (CIRFF), dealing with pharmaceutical prescriptions and outcome research.

Roberto Colonna

He is editor, responsible for several scientific journals. He has been focusing on writing pharmaceutical books and manuals since 2014. He has a large number of publications on both Italian and international journals.

Vincenzo Iadevaia

He is a biologist and pharmacist and studies the development of new drugs in the clinic. He is the author of numerous publications of pharmacotherapy and pharmaceutical legislation books, and teaches in several university colleges and pharmacy training courses.
