Abstract: The book examines the most relevant legal issues related to the evolution of digital technologies and, notably, the development of intelligent systems, their impact on human rights and the allocation of responsibilities.

The authors explore the available solutions that are able to promote and ensure the sustainability of innovation, through preventive actions and protection by design. Indeed, the digital technologies are able to improve risk assessment, promote transparency and efficiency of the digital services while respecting environment, social and human rights. Specific attention is given to the insurance, banking and tourism sectors.

Author Biographies

Ilaria Garaci, Università Europea di Roma

Ilaria Garaci - Associate Professor of Private Law at the Università Europea di Roma, where she teaches Private Law and Elements of Italian Private Law. She is member of the teaching board of the National PhD in 'Person, Well-being and Innovation' at the Università Europea di Roma. She has been a speaker at national and international seminars and conferences and is the author of two monographic works and several contributions on intangible assets and protection of individuals, consumer protection, civil liability, restitutionary remedies, rights of minors.

Roberta Montinaro, University of Naples L'Orientale

Roberta Montinaro - Full Professor of Private Law, she teaches 'Private Law' and ‘Private Law of the Digital Economy’ at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Naples 'L'Orientale'. She is scientific coordinator of the Jean Monnet Module "DiCIT - Digital Citizenship in the European Union" and a member of the Teaching board of the National PhD in Artificial Intelligence. She has been a speaker and scientific coordinator of national and international seminars and conferences. Author of monographic books, she has also published articles and essays in books and scientific journals, in Italian and English. Her main research interests include trust law, tort liability, consumer law and digital technology law.
