Author Biographies

Giovanni Maffei, University of Naples Federico II

Giovanni Maffei is Full Professor of Contemporary Italian Literature at the Università degli Studi di Napoli “Federico II”. His research focuses on Italian and European narrative between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as well as on poetics and theories of realism. In 2019, together with Paolo Giovannetti, he founded the Seminario permanente di narratologia, which publishes the proceedings of its conferences in the homonymous series issued by Biblion Edizioni, now in its fifth volume. Among his books are Nievo (Rome: Salerno Editrice, 2012), Le apocalissi difficili. De Roberto, Vittorini, Pomilio, Frasca (Rome: Salerno Editrice, 2017), and La passione del metodo. Le teorie, le poetiche e le narrazioni di Federico De Roberto (Florence: Franco Cesati Editore, 2017). Over the past few years, he has been publishing narratological studies on works by Federico De Roberto (including L’Illusione, I Viceré, and the short stories).

Concetta Maria Pagliuca, University of Naples Federico II

Concetta Maria Pagliuca earned her PhD in Philology from the Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II and held a postdoctoral research fellowship within the PRIN-PNRR-2022 project Memory and Mezzogiorno (MeMo). A Literary Map from 1945 to the Present. She has published several essays on the representation of subjectivity in late nineteenth-century novels and on metalepsis. Together with Filippo Pennacchio, she edited two volumes in the Seminario permanente di narratologia series (Biblion Edizioni): Narratologie. Prospettive di ricerca (2021) and Tempora. I tempi verbali del racconto. Vol. I (2023).
