Abstract: The volume presents the outcomes of the “Internationalisation” working table, the fifth of the thematic tables of the SIU seminar Intersezioni. La formazione urbanistica di fronte ai mutamenti, promoted by the Italian Society of Urban Planners. Building on the conceptual map drafted on 25 January 2024, it investigates how internationalisation is reshaping urban planning education and redefining the role, responsibilities and tools of the discipline within the European Higher Education Area. The volume concludes by outlining elements for a strategic agenda for the internationalisation of Italian urban planning education, including the establishment of a permanent SIU commission on internationalisation.

Author Biographies

Claudia Cassatella, Polytechnic University of Turin

Claudia Cassatella is associate professor of Regional and Landscape Planning at the Interuniversity Department of Regional and Urban Studies and Planning (DIST), Politecnico di Torino. Her research focuses on landscape planning and protection, green and blue infrastructures, rural development and planning education. Collaborative research and teachings in European, US and Japanese universities.

Lucia Nucci, University of Rome Three

Lucia Nucci is Associate Professor of Urbanism at the Department of Architecture, Roma Tre University. Her research focuses on contemporary city regeneration through public space design, metropolitan and local open space systems, quality-of-life indicators and the assessment of urban policies in European and Italian cities.
