Abstract: The Value of Medication Adherence in the Decision-Making Processes” aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the importance of medication adherence for patients with chronic conditions. Medication adherence plays a crucial role in ensuring the effectiveness of treatments, as it is essential for the proper management of symptoms, improving quality of life, and preventing potentially serious complications such as hospitalizations and mortality. The volume is divided into five sections. The first section provides an overview of the concept of medication adherence, examining both theoretical aspects and the current scenario. The second section illustrates current indicators for measuring medication adherence, useful for understanding perceived facilitators and barriers. The third part presents a SWOT analysis conducted in three Italian regions, representative of the north, center, and south of the country, aiming to identify specific challenges and opportunities, thus paving the way for targeted and personalized interventions for each regional context. Following this, the work identifies actionable strategies for monitoring medication adherence in decision-making processes, and finally, it discusses the results of the SWOT analysis conducted in the three regions under study. In this way, the work seeks to foster reflection on the importance of continually improving medication adherence through the adoption of integrated health policies and multidisciplinary approaches. These strategies are designed to effectively address patients’ needs and reduce the socioeconomic impact of chronic diseases.
