NBN:Abstract: The archangel Michael in Egypt has rarely been the subject of monographic studies, apart from textual editions. In 1959, Caspar Detlef Gustav Müller carried out an extensive work, but it certainly needs to be expanded and updated. This catalogue is intended as a working tool on the subject and contains a classification of the roles and epithets of the archangel Michael between the end of the 3rd and the beginning of the 12th century in Egypt, based on a corpus of literary sources in Coptic, including hagiographic sources, homilies dedicated to the archangel Michael, other homilies testifying to him and apocryphal sources. Some comparisons are also made with other types of sources, such as archaeological and magical sources. A final section is devoted to tables containing a complete list of epithets. Through this analysis of roles and epithets, the work focuses on how the archangel Michael was perceived and invoked in different texts produced in various social and cultural contexts.
