Abstract:  The international scholarly community dedicates the monographic volume Il teatro tra Quattrocento e Seicento to Konrad Eisenbichler, a refined scholar and keen critic, who, through texts and theatrical performances, captures the depth and infinite variety of scenes from daily life—a chiasmus of laughter and tears, as Giordano Bruno notes in the frontispiece of Candelaio, " In tristitia hilaris, in hilaritate tristis," a motto elevated by Pirandello to the emblem of Humour. The volume gathers contributions from Nerida Newbigin,  Francesca Bortoletti, Anna Maria Testaverde, Gianni Cicali, Matteo Leta, Michel Plaisance, Johnny L. Bertolio, Maria Galli Stampino, Rosalind Kerr, Pasquale Sabbatino, Francesco Divenuto, Ambra Moroncini, who enthusiastically accepted the invitation to celebrate Konrad Eisenbichler’s long career of research and teaching at the University of Toronto, on the occasion of his seventy-fifth birthday, warmly paying tribute to the Master, the friend, and the colleague.
