Abstract: The text analyses the visual language of modern architectural projects conveyed by coeval magazines, in parallel with the structure, composition and articulation of the magazines themselves, which adds further elements for understanding the expressive tools of an era. The volume is divided in two parts. The first presents the so-called ''little magazines'', i.e. those periodicals with non-commercial purposes, low print runs and short publication periods, aimed at conveying the thought of a movement or an architect and feeding the debate among the small circle of insiders. The second part, on the other hand, presents examples of more structured magazines with a commercial intent, printed for long periods, through which it is possible to analyse the changes between the 1920s and 1940s, both in the selection of contents and in the way projects were represented, as well as in the visual identity of the magazine itself. The comparison between the two typologies offers a complete scenario of a phenomenon such as the modern movement that changed not only the way of designing architecture, but also its communication.
