Abstract: This book collects most of the contributions that came out of the conference “Vies du port: regards croisés sur l'espace portuaire”, held in Naples on 22 and 23 September 2022 as part of the project “Les ports de la Méditerranée” funded by the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie.
The port is a strategic element of the region, its main function being the transport of goods and passengers and the supply of goods and services. However, its economic dimension should not make one underestimate its social, aesthetic, cultural and linguistic impact. The aim of the project is to enhance the port as a place of life and imagery, with particular, though not exclusive, reference to French and Francophone cultures, as well as to make it a place of production and access to culture.
This conference was an opportunity for specialists of various disciplines to dialogue on the theme of the port in its economic and social implications, as well as in the fields of linguistics and artistic or literary representation. Particular attention was paid to contemporary production with the participation of four artists – the duo Bianco-Valente, Raffaela Mariniello, Domenico Antonio Mancini – who have worked on the subject of port and migration on numerous occasions. Some of their creations are included in this volume.
