Abstract: This volume collects the Proceedings of the second edition of the conference “BEYOND ALL LIMITS. International Conference on Sustainability in Architecture, Planning, and Design”, held on May 11 and 12, 2022, at the San Leucio Belvedere Complex, home of Officina Vanvitelli. The conference was sponsored and organized by the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design of the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”, in partnership with the Faculty of Architecture of Çankaya University in Ankara and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. The main objective of this scientific and multidisciplinary conference, which covered the fields of architecture, planning and design, was to address the issue of sustainability within the current international debate that has arisen from the New European Bauhaus (NEB).

Author Biography

Claudio Gambardella, University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli

Claudio Gambardella has been Full Professor of Industrial Design, at DADI, and a Scientific Committee member of MUSA - Museo delle Scienze e delle Arti from Vanvitelli University. He is a Teacher Board member of the Doctoral Research (PhD) Programme of National Interest in “Design per il Made in Italy”. From 2018 to 2022, he has been engaged as a DADI professor in curating and organizing three international scientific conferences: the first and second edition of "Beyond all limits", held respectively in Ankara, at the Faculty of Architecture of Çankaya University (2018), and in San Leucio, at Officina Vanvitelli (2022); and then the first edition of "Utopian and Sacred Architecture Studies", held in Aversa (2019) in collaboration with IEREK, of which he is a Scientific Committee member. He is also the For Nature/with Nature: new sustainable design scenarios editor’s book for SPRINGER, currently in press, following a call launched by DADI in 2022. His preeminent line of research, which he has been working on since 1990, concerns design/craft interaction, which he calls "Handmade in Italy" and which is also the name of an ADI Thematic Commission, of which he is national coordinator, which he founded in 2017. He was one of the two scientific coordinators of an agreement stipulated between SUN and Pompeii City to create a Company Museum in Pompeii, as well as artistic director of the work tested in December 2022. He was the winner, as PI, of the PRIN project / 2022 call The Design System inthe Southern Italy territories. Design and Craftsmanship of excellence for the Made in Italy development and the engagement of local knowledge together (DeinSIte) together with Prof. Francesca Tosi (UNIFI). He directs for Altralinea "The 3RD Industrial Revolution. Futuro e Memoria del Design" series and for Guida the "Historia Rerum" series founded by Benedetto Gravagnuolo. He is also a Scientific Committee member of SYMBOLA Fondazione per le qualità italiane, since 2020.
