Abstract: Il potere delle favole. Vita politica di Enrico di Lorena (1614-1664), duca di Guisa e "Duce della Real Repubblica di Napoli", describes the political biography of a prince of Lorraine-Guise from his interrupted ecclesiastical career to his meddling in the affairs of the Neapolitan Republic (17th of october 1647 - 6th of april 1648), until his return at French court, much appraised by Louis XIV. Along the biography are highlighted the communication strategies which built the political "reality" of the society of princes of XVIIth century, and made Neapolitan people fell into the trap of war.

Michèle Benaiteau, University of Naples L'Orientale

Michèle Benaiteau has been teaching Early Modern History and Early Modern history of Italian Mezzogiorno at Università degli studi L’Orientale di Napoli until 2015, first as research fellow, then as associated professor. Before the present  study she has published various articles on  early modern history, and a volume on early modern history of Italian Mezzogiorno, Vassalli e cittadini. La signoria rurale nel Regno di Napoli attraverso lo studio dei feudi dei Tocco di Montemiletto (XI-XVIII secolo), Bari, Edipuglia, 1997, p. 398.
