Abstract: This volume remembers the figure and work of the first Director of the Physics Museum of the University of Naples Federico II, through her works on the scientific instruments of the Neapolitan collection. This is recognized to be among the most important in existence, both in terms of consistency and historical and scientific relevance. Here, in a digital anastatic reprint, the hard-to-find Le macchine del re. La collezione Reale nel Museo del Dipartimento di Scienze Fisiche  (The King’s machines: The Royal collection in the Museum of the Department of Physical Sciences), edited by E. Schettino and R. Spadaccini, and the series of booklets on La collezione degli antichi apparecchi dell’Istituto di Fisica (The collection of ancient instruments of the Institute of Physics) are re-proposed to the public, as well as an unpublished and valuable activity report on La collezione degli strumenti di Fisica  (The collection of physics instruments) written in 1990 by E. Ragozzino, R. Rinzivillo and E. Schettino. Brief notes on the biographical, human and scientific profile of Edvige Schettino introduce and complete the volume.
