Abstract: The volume is the result of reflections of the chair professors of the courses of Architectural and Urban Composition Laboratory, prof. R. Capozzi, Prof. P. Scala, Prof. V. Pezza, Prof. G. Szaniszlò, and the relative didactic experiences carried out in the laboratory courses in the first year of the ARC5UE degree program, a.a. 2020/2021, at the Dept. of Architecture of the University of Naples Federico II (DiARC); it closes with lessons by professors outside the department, who were invited to the cycle of seminars carried out in joint courses.

The volume is divided into three parts: Part I - The didactic project between theory and laboratories, Part II - The laboratory experiences, Part III - Architecture, city and archeology.

This work has been collated and edited by Arch. Francesca Spacagna, referent of course 1 A; larch. PhD student Maria Fierro, referent of course 1 B; larch. Davide Apicella, coordinator of the 1 C course; larch. Pasquale Abbagnale, referent of course 1 D.

Author Biographies

Pasquale Abbagnale

Pasquale Abbagnale, architect, graduated with honors in the Arc5UE degree course at the Universityof Naples "Federico II" in 2016. Featured as subject expert in course sector “ICAR 14- Architecturaland Urban Composition” for the three-year period 2018-2021. He carried out a supplementary teaching activity at DiARC in 2020/21 in the Laboratory of Architectural and Urban Composition 1D held by prof.arch.G. Szaniszlò.

Davide Apicella

Architect, graduated from the University of Naples Federico II under prof. R. Capozzi, with the dissertation "The Great Hadrian's Villa. Designing The Buffer Zone". Today assistant of prof. arch. V. Pezza at the Master's Degree in Architecture courses in Naples. He participated in the International Master “Museography, Architecture and Archeology. Strategic Design and Innovative Management of Archaeological Areas". Co-founder of the “Nuceria Archaeological Group” of 2019, in Nocera Superiore (SA).

Maria Fierro

Architect and PhD student in architecture at DiARC, University of Naples Federico II. graduated with honors in architectural and urban design in the Arc5UE degree course - with the thesis "inKumpania, on the Periphery of the Periphery". She has held the role of tutor in several international workshops and competitions. She has carried out supplementary teaching activities and currently covers a voluntary teaching support position at the courses of Prof. Arch. P. Scala at DiARC.

Francesca Spacagna

Francesca Spacagna, graduated in Architecture with honors and work publication, at the DiARC - in the Cdl Arc 5UE - University of Naples Federico II in 2021 with the thesis “The Void as an Element of Urban Construction. The Case of the Ancient City Center of Naples". She works as subject expert for ICAR / 14 courses, she has obtained a contract for supplementary teaching activities at the DiARC in the Laboratory of Architectural and Urban Composition I a.a. 2020/21 held by prof. arch. R. Capozzi.
