Abstract: The publication collects the results of the four Laboratories of Architectural and Urban Design and Interior Architecture of the 5UE Master's Degree Course in Architecture of the DiARC of the Department of Architecture of the University of Naples "Federico II", which took place during the academic year 2020/2021.

The exercises conducted by the students are located in the Vallone San Rocco area, falling within an urban area of ​​PUA, and aimed at the care of the domestic and urban space through the experimentation of new forms of collective living, and particular attention to integration. cultural, social and generational.

The theme of the living space was declined through the elaboration of different project scales: from the private internal space to the semi-public external space, ending with the collective open space, including agricultural and productive ones.

The volume is completed by numerous essays by lecturers from the Department of Architecture, architects and experts demonstrating the transversal and central nature of the topic dealt with in the context of contemporary architectural research.

Author Biographies

Serena Acciai, University of Florence

Architect with research and teaching experience in the multicultural heritage of the Mediterranean. Her work mostly focuses on the construction, perception, and representation of cultural identities through architecture. She obtained her Ph.D. (summa cum laude) in Architectural Design from the University of Florence. She has given lectures at several Universities, she currently holds an appointment as a lecturer in Architectural Design at the University of Florence. 

Daniela Buonanno, University of Naples Federico II

Architect, PhD in Urban Design, Researcher (RTDa) in Architectural and Urban Design at the Department of Architecture of the University of Naples "Federico II". She is author of articles on architecture and the city, among her publications "Collective City Projects" (with Piscopo C., 2020), “Public and/or private space. The Palace opens to the city” (2018), "Architecture and Commons" (with Piscopo C., 2018), "Productive City" (2016). 

Bruna Di Palma, University of Naples Federico II

Architect and PhD in Urban Design, is Researcher (RTDa) in Architectural and Urban Design at the Department of Architecture of the University of Naples Federico II. She participates in various publishing initiatives including the ADS Advanced Design Studio series, published by FedOA-Federico II University Press, of which she is a member of the Scientific Committee. She carries out teaching and research activities, at national and international level, on the themes of architectural and urban design in relation to cultural heritage, public city, vulnerable landscapes.

Camillo Orfeo, University of Naples Federico II

Architect and PhD in Urban Design, he taught theory, composition and architectural design at the Faculties of Naples and Matera. Already research fellow he is RTDB researcher at the DiARC_Department of Architecture UNINA. He has carried out theoretical and design research on themes concerning theoretical and methodological aspects of the architecture of the city (Abruzzo Aquilano, Costa Vesuviana, Costa Abruzzese), and studies concerning the city-project-archeology relationship (Villa Adriana, Fori Imperiali, Roman cities of Timgad and Djemila).
