Abstract: “The Arab theater born in recent times is perhaps the most contemporary amongst all types of theater. The most deeply contemporary. Contemporaneity does not mean reporting a news story. Contemporaneity is absolute only when its strength concerns the always, the always that draws on what happened in the past centuries, pushing itself into the future, without limits” (from the preface by R. Cappuccio).

This anthological volume, the first in Western languages to collect texts of the most recent Arabic drama, is the result of the cooperation between the Department Asia, Africa e Mediterraneo (DAAM) of the University of Naples “L’Orientale” and the Fondazione Campania dei Festival that organizes the Campania Teatro Festival (CTF). This volume is part of the activities of the Laboratorio di Traduzione (DAAM - Department of Excellence 2018-2022 program).
