Abstract: An-ski’s The Dybbuk, a play about love, mystery, and possession on the background of a Jewish village in Eastern Europe, was first staged in 1920 in Warsaw in its Yiddish version. Shortly thereafter, it would become a classic of Hebrew theatre, which was taking its first steps at that time, as well as of Yiddish theatre. This edition presents the original Yiddish text (for the first time in YIVO standard spelling) accompanied by a critical apparatus and a new unabridged Italian translation. The history of the text and its productions is covered in detail in the introduction. Moreover, a glossary guides the reader through the understanding of phrases and cultural elements.
