Abstract: The book reconstructs the history of the “Settembrini” school in Lagonegro (1880-1925) after a long and complex research work because over time institutional records have been lost or destroyed. In the “Settembrini” school, which operated in the Lagonegro area, many human stories of students and teachers developed, including extraordinary cultural figures: Adele Lehr, Carlo Emilio Gadda’s mother; Elisa Avigliano, Salvatore Di Giacomo’s wife; Zanardelli, who visited the school in 1902; Pasquale Aldinio, superintendent of studies in Reggio Calabria after the 1908 earthquake and in Milan during the Great War; Raffaella Faucitano, Luigi Settembrini’s wife; the scientist Giuseppe De Lorenzo; Francesco De Sarlo, creator of the Laboratory of Experimental Psychology in Florence in 1903; the painter Emilio Notte, who attended the primary schools where the apprenticeships were held; the philosopher Michele Federico Sciacca and the RAI director Walter Pedullà, who later taught at the Magistral institute.
