Abstract: This volume presents original theoretical-scientific, applied and experimental products aimed at identifying and promoting effective and innovative strategies to combat the phenomenon of functional illiteracy, which lurks in the most disadvantaged schools in all the countries of the European Union. These are the results of collaborative research carried out within the framework of the Erasmus Plus Strategic Partnership project, Key Action K201, marked with the European "Best Practice" label, Prévenir l'Illettrisme par des dispositifs pédagogiques innovants et la coopération avec les familles/Preventing Illiteracy through innovative pedagogical devices and cooperation with families, (2017-2020), which involved the University of Basilicata, the Piedmont Regional School Office (Italy), the Direction des Services Départementaux de l'Éducation Nationale (DSDEN) de l'Oise, Académie d'Amiens (France), the Inspectoratul Scolar Judetean of Braila (Romania), the Konya Il Milli Egitim Mudurlugu of Konya (Turkey). Aimed at European scholars and professionals involved in education at all levels, the book is an effective and innovative tool for documentation and acquisition of advanced professional skills.

Author Biographies

Emilio Lastrucci, University of Basilicata

Emilio Lastrucci teaches Pedagogy at the University of Basilicata and in the PhD programme in Social and Developmental Psychology and Educational Research at the University of Rome «La Sapienza», as well as being a visiting professor at various foreign universities. National President of the Italian Pedagogical Association (As.Pe.I.) from 2017 to 2020 and founder (in 1993) and National President of the Italian Society for Educational Research (S.I.R.E.), he is a member of various scientific academies worldwide. He has directed research, especially empirical-experimental research, of the highest international importance, focusing in particular on literacy processes, reading comprehension, the teaching of history and social sciences, and citizenship education. He has also dealt with curriculum planning, objective assessment and school self-evaluation, and has developed theoretical-application models that have been widely used in the school-educational system. He is the author of over 500 scientific publications, including 40 monographs, translated into several languages. He is the editor of several important scientific journals and publishing series in the psycho-pedagogical-educational field, both nationally and internationally, the editor of several encyclopaedias of worldwide circulation and the author of ten entries in the Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani. He is a permanent consultant to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Universities and Research.

Domenico Milito, University of Basilicata

Domenico Milito is Associate Professor of Education and Special Pedagogy, Coordinator of the Degree Course in Primary Education Sciences, Director of the Specialization Course for teaching students with disabilities, National President of the Fnism - National Federation of Teachers, Journalist, Editor in Chief of the magazine L’Eco della scuola nuova. Author of numerous publications including in particular: Didattica innovativa nell’era digitale (Milito, Tataranni, Anicia, 2020); Braille. La cultura tra le mani (Milito, Lisanti, Anicia, 2018); Cultura inclusiva e successo formativo (Anicia, 2017); Le nuove frontiere dei BES nell’era digitale (Anicia, 2015).

Emilia Surmonte, University of Basilicata

Emilia Surmonte is Lecturer in French Literature at the University of Basilicata, where she also teaches French. She is a teacher trainer (initial and continuous training) in the MIUR and in universities and has participated in numerous research projects in the field of foreign language teaching. Her university research interests focus on contemporary literature and the languages of the senses. She has published the monographs La langue des odeurs en diachro-synchronie (Lavieri, 2014), Antigone, la Sphinx d’Henry Bauchau (Peter Lang, 2011) and Declinazioni della passione in Marguerite Yourcenar (Schena, 2006). Translator of Claude Simon’s Les Géorgiques into Italian, she is the author of numerous literary and linguistic-cultural articles. Editor in Le Nouveau Dictionnaire général bilingue français-italien/italien-français and the Dictionnaire Yourcenar, she currently collaborates with the CIREB research group and with the Dictionnaire de la Nouvelle Brachylogie. She is also interested in the relationship between literature and comics in the French and French-speaking areas.
