Abstract: The twentieth century is often interpreted as a time of profound discontinuity and rupture with a millennial-old cultural tradition. However, the enduring presence of myth as a unifying principle of meaning challenges this perception. This volume takes an interdisciplinary approach to explore the interplay between rupture and myth, encompassing philosophy, history, literature and the arts. What role does myth play in an era that perceives itself as being in radical discontinuity with the past? Is rupture merely an interruption, or also a moment of re-composition and re-writing of meaning?
