Abstract: This paper explores the work of researchers who are members of the Friends of Molo San Vincenzo, which is inspired by the principles of the Faro Convention and European documents that recognise cultural heritage and culture as key factors in sustainable development processes. Molo San Vincenzo, halfway between the past and the future, is a space of infinite potential in the heart of Naples. The dock has jutted out into the sea for centuries, a repository of stories about travellers, migrants and local residents. This work chronicles the journey of the Friends of Molo San Vincenzo, a community of local residents, researchers and professionals who have been working for fifteen years to promote it as a public asset. Walkabouts, workshops and participatory initiatives transform the dock into a hub for dialogue between the city, the port and local authorities, a place for gathering, storytelling and collaborative planning. This is a story of commitment and collaboration that shows how places take on meaning when communities inhabit them and bring them to life. These experiences have given rise to a transdisciplinary approach to study, research and action, in which different areas of expertise come together through the involvement of a wide range of social players.
