From the website:
"ClioPress was founded in 2002 by Roberto Delle Donne in response to the gradual narrowing of both history books and journals markets, begun in the early nineties. The initiative is supported by the conviction that digital publishing, whether managed directly within universities and research institutes, could represent a chance to escape the spiral of increasing prices for printing, storing and distributing scientific publications, which tightens traditional publishers. Therefore, it want to provide a concrete alternative to the logic of the market and the profit motive that underlie commercial publishers. Via telematic networks ClioPress provides the widest possible circulation to the results of the historical research, continuing to ensure the possibility to read on paper thanks to the print-on-demand technology. ClioPress is compliant with regulations in order to certify the authenticity of the imprint own electronic and multimedia publications. It provides the Legal Deposit and the assignment of ISBN and ISSN codes, the “Unique Digital Identifiers”, and the descriptive metadata. Before publishing, all essays are double blind peer reviewed."
