Abstract: The volume collects a full transcription, complete with notes of comments, of letters and invitations from Neapolitan scientists to the famous archaeologist Giuseppe Fiorelli (1823-1896). These documents bear witness of an intricate network of relationships among high personalities of the intelligentsia of XIX century Naples and contribute to highlight the work of Fiorelli beyond archaeology and Pompeii excavations.

Author Biography

Lavinia De Rosa, University Library of Naples

Lavinia De Rosa combines her interest in the classical world with that of librarianship, bibliography and library history. Her research topics are the public works in the Roman age, the history of Neapolitan cultural institutions, especially the archaeological libraries, archaeologists’ papers. She has published essays and articles in miscellaneous volumes and journals, including: La Sala Classici della Biblioteca del Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli (2017); La Biblioteca della Scuola archeologica di Pompei dagli scavi al Museo di Napoli (2019), Il Museo Nazionale di Napoli nelle pagine di «Napoli Nobilissima» (2022); Breve storia di una storia lunga 600 anni. Il Collegio Massimo dei Gesuiti di Napoli (2024).
