Abstract: The volume, the result of the study day organized by the chair of History of Philosophy of the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, in cooperation with the Italian Institute of Bioethics, aims to offer an answer to the reasons why the “old”, in contemporary society, is no longer considered a precious cultural resource, a source of wisdom and experience, but a “useless thing”. The authors, for the part of their scientific expertise, have provided answers that may also be useful for the formulation of new social policies, for the solution of the “old age” problem from an ethical, medical, sociological and historical perspective in line with a bioethical approach to the “senescence” problem. In fact, the volume, of a multidisciplinary nature, collects the contributions of Luisella Battaglia, Giuseppe Battimelli, Carla Costanzi, Silvano Franco, Andrea Lavazza, Federica Madonna, Franco Aurelio Meschini.
