Abstract: The figure of Sarah Kane – twenty years after her death – still inspires critical discussions on the autobiographical elements traceable in her plays, on her universal poetics and modernist, post-modernist or post-humanist aesthetics, on her relation to feminism and political commitment, even on her idea of love. Scholars have so far mostly developed three different lines of investigation: one adopting a social hyper-realistic in-yer-face perspective, one privileging the study of Kane’s classical sources, one considering her works as forms of post-dramaturgy.

Resulting from an international conference at Mercadante Theatre in Naples in 2019, the volume deals with new critical issues, ranging from the question of subjectivity to the problem of stage representation, contributing to enrich the Italian critical scenario.
