Abstract: The third volume of Storia politica del Giappone contemporaneo (1948-1950) completes the examination of the complex relationship between winners and losers.

Following the chronological structure of the narrative, as in the previous two volumes of Storia politica del Giappone contemporaneo, giving proper prominence to peculiar cultural-value factors, the third volume of Storia politica del Giappone contemporaneo (1948-1950)addresses  the second step of the American occupation of Japan ("reverse course") and the taking shape of "Yoshida doctrine".
