Abstract: This volume has the same title of the one published in 2011. It collects a series of studies on the long reign of the second Trastàmara King of Naples, Ferdinand of Aragon (1458-1494), using mainly the great mass of information offered by diplomatic correspondences. The authors study some key events and protagonists of Italian history in the Quattrocento (the battle of Ponza, the condottiero Giacomo Piccinino, the journey of Lorenzo de’ Medici to Naples, the war of Ferrara) and important topics about politics and political communication: the relations between the Crown, the society and the fiscal institutions; the use of italian language in the autograph letters written by Lluís Dezpuig, a catalan; the “queenship” of the duchess of Ferrara.

Alessio Russo, University of Naples Federico II

Alessio Russo has a PhD in Scienze Storiche (University of Naples Federico II / Université Paris 8). He published the book Federico d’Aragona (1451-1504). Politica e ideologia nella dinastia aragonese di Napoli (2018) and other studies about the political and institutional history, as well as the chivalric culture in the Aragonese Kingdom of Naples.

Francesco Senatore, University of Naples Federico II

Francesco Senatore insegna Storia medievale all’università Federico II di Napoli. Ha studiato la diplomazia e la comunicazione epistolare nello spazio politico italiano, le scritture e le istituzioni nel Mezzogiorno (secoli XIV-XVI), pubblicando due volumi di carteggi sforzeschi (1997, 2004), “Uno mundo de carta”. Forme e strutture della diplomazia sforzesca (1998), Una città, il regno: istituzioni e società a Capua nel XV secolo (2018), Parlamenti generali a Napoli in età aragonese (con E. Scarton, 2018).

Francesco Storti insegna Storia medievale all’università Federico II di Napoli. Si è occupato di istituzioni militari, comunicazione diplomatica, ideologia monarchica e spazio politico urbano. Ha pubblicato un volume dei carteggi sforzeschi (1998), Spazi e tempi della guerra nel Mezzogiorno aragonese (con F. Senatore 2002); L’esercito napoletano nella seconda metà del Quattrocento ( 2007); « El buen marinero». Psicologia politica e ideologia monarchica al tempo di Ferdinando I d’Aragona re di Napoli (2014), I lancieri del re. Esercito e comunità cittadine nel Mezzogiorno aragonese (2017).
