Abstract: Dialogue between literature and art forms has always generated renewed narrative forms and creative fusions. Consider the fertile exchange between literary texts and the visual arts, as well as the points of contact between music and the soundscape of texts. In addition to the contaminations between word, image and sound, the porous boundaries of literariness represent sites where aspects of culture, identity and language can encounter one another, in a hybrid and synergistic perspective both through literary translation and through the intersection of different genres and media.

This volume offers a series of investigations on the interstices of such (Inter)Actions. With an interdisciplinary stance, the contributions explore different sites of encounter, beginning with the expressive potential of languages in translation, from both diachronic and diatopic perspectives. A reflection on the diffractions of the identities of literary personae in periods spanning from the 19th century to contemporaneity is the focus of a group of a further set of chapters. Another site of encounter gathers chapters that touch on themes and contexts as diverse as Greek tragedy and the rewriting of myth, 17thcentury French theatre, and poetry that expresses the synergies among textuality, visuality and sound. Lastly, the volume concludes with contributions exploring how serial remediations of literary devices from a transmedia perspective – specifically videogames and TV series – expand meanings and repurpose narrative structures.
