Abstract: This volume brings together fifty-eight studies by the papyrologist and Hellenist Giovanni Indelli, published between 1975 and 2023. It offers a selection of scholarly articles and book chapters drawn from the extensive body of work produced by a scholar born in Salerno but educated in Naples, who pursued his entire scholarly and academic career at the University of Naples Federico II.

The studies collected here reflect the three principal strands of Indelli's research. Thirty-seven contributions address papyrological and textual-critical issues, as well as questions of interpretation and exegesis, relating to philosophical texts preserved in the Herculaneum papyri. Nine studies focus on Plutarch's Moralia, examining the reconstruction of their text and highlighting the importance of the translations of these works produced by Italian humanists in the fifteenth century. Finally, twelve contributions explore some of the leading figures in the history of classical and papyrological scholarship over the past two centuries—among them Domenico Comparetti, Marcello Gigante, and Achille Vogliano—through the edition of previously unpublished correspondence and archival documents.

The purpose of the collection is not merely to bring together a number of studies of outstanding scholarly significance in the field of Classical Studies, some of which are no longer readily accessible. Through its selection of themes, it also seeks to present both specialist and non-specialist readers with the intellectual profile of a scholar who has made a major contribution to the development of research on the Herculaneum papyri and on Plutarch.
