Abstract: This book, funded by the University Federico II among the valuable initiatives for the dissemination of scientific research, took shape at the end of a series of meetings organised during the 2024–25 academic year at the Department of Law of the University of Naples Federico II, as part of a departmental research project dedicated to the theme ‘Women’s Entrepreneurship: History, Rights, Economy’. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, the research aimed to bring together specialists from various legal fields – ranging from constitutional to civil law, from the history of modern law to labour law, and from the law of antiquity to political economy – to engage a fructuous dialogue with female entrepreneurs, professionals, representatives from the world of solidarity-based associations, local administrators and members of the legal professions who, through their testimonies, could enrich the topics under discussion and provide further insight. At the end of the workshops – which were very well followed by students on the Master’s degree programme in Law and by PhD students from various academic disciplines – the idea arose, at the participants’ own request, to collect the reflections inspired by those meetings.
The issue of female entrepreneurship and, more generally, female employment remains, even today, a critical issue in Italy, where – despite European incentives – delays and gaps in legislation persist, slowing down career progression and access to leadership roles in top-level and strategic positions. This makes it desirable to propose awareness-raising and training initiatives to students, who are, and will continue to be, engaged in shaping contemporary society.
