Abstract:  What is an image? And what relationship does it have with imagination? These questions are answered by the essays collected in this volume, which are structured along three fundamental lines of interpretation: a historical approach, which highlights the relationship between image and imagination in the history of thought; an ethical-political viewpoint, which focuses on the role of the image-imagination pair in individual or collective choice; and finally, an aesthetic viewpoint, which shows the specificity of the artistic dimension, whether visual or literary.
